World Read Aloud Day with Griffin Elementary!

World Read Aloud Day is a global literacy movement that encourages children, teens, and adults to celebrate the power of words by sharing them with others.

diffendooferFour Falcons took this opportunity to read Hooray for Diffendoofer Day by Dr. Seuss (with help from Jack Prelutsky and Lane Smith) to a 4th grade class at Griffin Elementary using Google Hangouts. Mrs. Cross, the Griffin Elementary librarian, recommended our students read this book to her students because it has become a tradition that she read this to them every March during Read Across America Week.

Our Falcon students quickly previewed the book and set out trying to decide who would read what. After the high schoolers read to the elementary students, they answered lots of questions about their favorite books, favorite authors, when they read, etc. I’m not sure who enjoyed this more. It was hard to tell with all the bright smiles from everyone. 🙂

What an incredible way to promote literacy! I’m so proud of our Falcon students. They loved participating in this event and are eager to do it again. It was definitely a great day to be a Falcon!
